Eating Disorders and Recovery:
Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any emotional
disorder. Five to 10 percent of those with anorexia nervosa will
die within 10 years. For the more than seven million women and
one million men suffering from bulimia, the odds of dying are
even greater.
Working with a psychotherapist and a nutrition therapist specially
trained to deal with eating disorders can help an individual suffering
from an eating disorder make the changes necessary to begin recovery.
For Individuals with Eating Disorders:

- To evaluate available laboratory, anthropometric, medial
and physical data
- To assess diet and weight history and current eating
patterns

- To raise basal metabolic rate, meet nutrient needs and
stabilize and then achieve health weight
- One-on-one counseling and treatment
- Provide education to:
- replace false beliefs about nutrition, food, weight,
exercise and health

Eating Disorder Prevention Program:
These counseling sessions help parents learn more about how to
prevent eating disorders in their children. Parents will understand
what these disorders are, how they develop-and not just how the
disorders can be prevented-but what specific preventive steps
a parent can take.
Healthy Families, Healthy Children and Healthy Foods:
Parents can give their children ample helpings to one of the
great pleasures of life by fostering the enjoyment of delicious,
healthy food at a happy, wholesome family table.
Nutrition counseling can help all family members-parents and
children-develop positive eating habits and healthy relationships
with food. Types of concerns addressed include: how parents can
create the best environment for sound nutrition; the parent’s
role in developing good eating habits; how to deal with the child
who has a body type that doesn’t fit the societal standard;
helping children reach their best weights for nutrition and health;
what normal eating is; how much a child should eat; how to help
a child eat the right foods; and how to distinguish eating problems
from true eating disorders.
Sports Nutrition:
Because what you eat and when you eat affects sports performance,
individual sports enthusiast, personal trainers and health and
fitness centers will want to include a sound sport nutrition plan
as part of every overall fitness program.
In addition to developing a sports nutrition plan,
you’ll learn more about:

- the best muscle fuel
- fluid needs
